With the vendor announcements at the recent 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain for new “Super 3G” phones or handsets that are powered by high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), it is expected that local service providers will start flooding the Philippine market with HSDPA phones starting April.
“More will come this year albeit at premium price points still. This will enhance video and internet browsing experience,” Globe consumer wireless group head Ferdinand de la Cruz said. Industry officials said it will take some time and a certain price threshold before HSDPA handsets become attractive to the mass market.
